My Shower Essentials

A few weeks ago I came to realise that I actually really love the shower products I use. Unlike makeup and skincare, I never used to care much about which body wash or shampoo I used. I’d usually just pick up any shampoo that was on sale at the grocery store 😂  This year however, I’ve been doing a bit of research and trying out more products. I feel like I’ve finally cultivated my perfect shower combo and am excited to share these great products!

Body

I’ve used many different body washes like Dove and Cetaphil. I am prone to breakouts on my chest and back, so a good body wash targeted towards acne paired with a exfoliating brush is essential. I previously used the Cetaphil Antibacterial Gentle Cleansing Bar. Although it did do the trick, I wanted something that would lather and spread easier, so I tried the Mario Badescu A.H.A. Botanical Body Soap. I think I’ve finally found the right combo for my skin.

The AHA Body Soap has been great in fighting breakouts and clogged pores. I just apply some on my body brush from Muji, and give my back and chest a good scrub. I will occasionally also scrub my legs and arms to exfoliate. As for the body brush, I highly recommend a good quality plastic one instead of those made from wood. The wood tends to get discoloured quickly, which makes me feel like there’s heaps of nasty bacteria or mould growing in it from all that moisture.

I only use the AHA body soap and body brush every second day. For those other days, I go for LUSH’s ‘Honey I washed the Kids’ soap. I heard all the hype about this soap years ago and now I can say that I truly understand why people love it! It does smell heavenly; it isn’t like those fake, overly sweet fragranced soaps. It leaves you feeling clean but super moisturised. This is my second bar, and I seriously can’t go back! I highly recommend this.

Face

Some of you may know a few months ago I did a first impressions on some Frank Body skin care products. I’ve been using them for a while now and can definitely say that I recommend the Creamy Face Scrub and Creamy Face Cleanser!

The scrub does it’s job – it exfoliates. However, the nourishing oils mixed in with the ground coffee beans leaves your skin feeling plump and moisturised. The creamy face cleanser is super gentle. It cleans residue off the skin without stripping the natural oils. I highly recommend these as they are super affordable and do a good job at cleaning the skin without irritating it.

Hair

I’ve also tried many different shampoos – my hair had gone through so much processing throughout the years and I’d tried everything to get it silky and smooth. I’ve tried brands like Tresemme and OGX, and also Japanese brands like Shiseido and Kracie Ichikami. However, I think I’ve finally found the perfect one!

I found these A’kin products while browsing around in Priceline. I’ve been researching natural beauty products lately and I was super excited to see that this brand is natural and silicone free!

After using this for two months now, I can confirm that it not only cleans the scalp well, but has also made my hair sleeker. I always had the issue of frizzy hair – especially straight after drying – but now it is so so sooo much smoother and I am so so sooo much happier 😂It does state however, that first time users should keep in mind that it may take some time for your scalp to adjust to the natural ingredients. If you’re unsure and just want to try it out, they do sell smaller 225mL bottles.

I use the Lemongrass and Juniper Purifying Shampoo and the Avocado and Calendula Daily Shine Conditioner. I did try the Hypoallergenic Shampoo once (mostly out of curiosity) but I ended up sticking to the Purifying Shampoo as I have more of an oily scalp. Note that apart from the Hypoallergenic one, these do have a distinct botanical-herby smell. In my opinion, the smell is strong but not sickening like those with fruity/floral/sweet smells. I actually think the smell can act like aromatherapy for waking up the mind in the morning or winding down at night.

That’s it for my shower essentials! I feel like I’ve finally found a great combination of products and I highly recommend you all to try them.

See you in our next post!

Love,

C ♡
